Make San Francisco the dance music capital of the West Coast.

San Francisco has always been a music city - but our downtown has lost its rhythm. We have all of the infrastructure (transit, accommodations, public spaces), talent, and good weather year-round to make San Francisco the dance music capital of the West Coast. San Francisco can and should be an iconic music destination.

  • Create a free concert series in front of City Hall inspired by the Fred Again x Skrillex show. We saw first-hand how, with planning, thoughtfulness, and intentionality, we could breathe life into an incredible public space. I will champion the creation of a free, iconic music series in Downtown San Francisco that will repeat on an annual basis. Think of it as the Fleet Week of Music. I’ll use this City-sponsored event to drive business to the incredible nightclubs throughout our City to ensure those coming from both within and beyond San Francisco put their economic power to work in the small businesses that anchor our economy.

  • Champion entertainment zones and other special exclusion areas. We need to create business density in the parts of our downtown that are ultimately designed to serve nightlife - and we should create different rules and regulations regarding these parts of the City to ultimately support nightlife.

  • Continue to make Downtown SF a priority for new programming and events. In order to fully revitalize our downtown area as a viable live-work environment, the City needs to play a critical role in ensuring that new programming lands in underutilized downtown spaces.

  • Extend to a 4AM last call. In order to be competitive with other major nightlife destinations, we should extend to a 4AM last call (particularly in entertainment zones).

  • Coordinate across City departments to integrate transit, experiences, and venues into seamless, cross-city experiences. City Hall needs to do more to make our public spaces more easily usable, ensure these spaces are easily accessible via infrastructure like MUNI, and play a critical role in attracting top-tier talent to play in these spaces.

  • Ensure public safety. The spaces people want to enjoy need to be safe, clean, and pleasant for business operators and patrons alike. I’ll invest in a fully-funded police department, enhanced street cleaning, and other quality-of-life initiatives to ensure experiences are as enjoyable as they are iconic.

  • Make the relationship with City Hall easier. I’m committed to cutting the red tape and administrative bureaucracy that makes it hard to open and operate a business in San Francisco. I’ll eliminate burdensome approval processes, scale back unnecessary administrative oversight, and get rid of fees and other hurdles that ultimately don’t help businesses thrive.
